Spending Path of Exile 2 Currency on another damage upgrade can solve the wrong problem when an Oath Rune encounter keeps forcing you out of attack range. A larger tooltip number does little while summoned enemies interrupt every opening. Before replacing equipment, identify whether the fight is failing because your damage is insufficient or because your character cannot safely deliver it.

Increased Ward Changes the Fight, Not Damage Eligibility

The revised Oath Rune modifier described for PoE 2 removes the affected monster's damage immunity and instead increases its Ward. It also reduces the Ward spent summoning minions and increases rarity. The immediate tactical difference is straightforward: attacking the main target now matters, but its protection and supporting enemies still demand attention.

Do not interpret reduced Ward expenditure as a reason to wait for summons to exhaust the monster's protection. That approach gives surrounding enemies more opportunities to restrict your movement. Instead, maintain pressure whenever positioning allows, and judge progress through actual health loss rather than assuming that several uninterrupted skill animations guarantee meaningful damage.

Choose Target Priorities Around Your Damage Delivery

Area-focused builds should look for positions where their regular attacks can reach the Oath Rune monster and nearby summons together. Chasing individual enemies across the encounter separates your damage from the priority target. Clear a usable firing lane, then bring the fight back toward that lane instead of pursuing every surviving minion.

Single-target builds face a different decision. If nearby summons repeatedly interrupt your attack sequence, removing them becomes part of dealing damage efficiently. Clear the enemies blocking your next retreat before committing to another sequence. A shorter, completed attack window is more useful than repeatedly starting a stronger sequence that movement immediately cancels.

Upgrade for the Failure You Can Actually Observe

During early mapping or an equipment transition, avoid rebuilding your character around one difficult Expedition modifier. First repeat a manageable encounter with fewer additional threats. If damage becomes consistent once incoming pressure falls, the expensive weapon replacement you were considering may be less urgent than improving recovery or correcting a defensive weakness.

For a more established build, separate three failure patterns: running out of resources, losing attack uptime, and taking lethal damage. Resource problems call for sustain checks; interrupted damage calls for positioning or skill adjustments; sudden deaths require defensive review. Buying damage for all three problems creates unnecessary equipment churn without addressing the cause.

Measure Expedition Value Across the Entire Run

Read the available Remnants before activation and assess their combined demands against your build. An Oath Rune encounter that already requires frequent retreats is a poor place to add more pressure indiscriminately. Choose combinations that preserve room to move and enough recovery to finish, rather than treating every reward modifier as an automatic selection.

The increased rarity bonus is a potential benefit, not a promised item or currency return. Compare several completed Expeditions using total time, deaths, and usable rewards. A slower Oath Rune kill can still fit a productive route, but repeated recovery trips or unfinished encounters are reasons to reduce difficulty before investing further.

Once your character completes the encounter reliably, make small equipment changes and compare results before committing more currency. If you choose to buy POE 2 Orb of Alchemy for equipment crafting, set a spending limit first; improving one slot should not consume resources needed to repair the defensive weakness exposed by your next Expedition.
