I still remember when I first started noticing how often I'd feel like I was missing out on something important. It wasn't until I'd scroll through my feeds and see all the people I knew were out having fun, or attending events I'd forgotten about, that I realized I was stuck in a cycle of constant FOMO. It's like my brain had become a magnet for anxiety, and every time I checked my phone, I'd feel this creeping sense of dread that I was somehow behind.
The Rise of Social Media and Our Fear of Missing Out
Growing up with social media has been both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it's connected me to people and communities I never would have met otherwise. But on the other hand, it's created this warped sense of reality where everyone seems to be living their best lives, and I'm just over here trying to keep up. I'm not sure if it's the algorithms or what, but it feels like my feeds are curated to make me feel like I'm constantly missing out. I mean, take Instagram for example. Everyone's posting these perfect, posed photos, and it's hard not to compare. But the thing is, those people aren't posting their messy, everyday moments. They're posting the highlight reels. And it's not until I see someone's behind-the-scenes stories that I realize, oh wait, they're just as messy as I am. But by then, the damage is already done – I've spent hours scrolling through my feeds, feeling like I'm somehow inadequate. I've started to wonder, though, if this FOMO is a byproduct of the way we consume information. We're constantly bombarded with updates, notifications, and alerts, and it's hard to turn off the noise. Even when I'm trying to focus on a task, my brain keeps wandering back to my phone, just in case I've missed something important. It's like I'm perpetually waiting for the other shoe to drop, always on edge, never fully present in the moment.
Apakah kamu merasa kurang percaya diri? Atau apakah kamu merasa kurang sukses?
